The existing home at 1923 Richcreek had seen a renovation or two since its original construction in the mid-20th century. The problem was, the additions did not fully consider how the spaces should dialogue with each other, resulting in a fragmented, discordant floor plan.
Plumb Architecture (then cdSHAW architect) worked with the homeowners to develop a master plan to renovate their home over time, allowing them to work their way systematically through the home, to update it with modern comforts and amenities, while preserving its cottage character.
An addition at the rear of the house added much needed square footage to the guest bedroom and a master bathroom. Every square inch was maximized to keep the footprint of the new addition as small as possible, to minimize encroachment on the large existing shade tree in the backyard.
Knowing that a separate soaking tub was not going to be utilized by the family, the owners opted for a large walk-in shower with dual shower heads. Three small windows demark the double-basin sink and vanity. Mounted high on the wall, they allow natural light into the room without losing privacy.
The house was completely transformed with the new cement board siding, windows, and shingle roof. The combination of dark blue horizontal lap siding with the powder blue vertical board and batten siding gives additional character to the home.
Currently, the kitchen is segregated from the living room, discouraging contact and easy conversation between the two spaces. Future plans for the home include the relocation and reconfiguration of the existing laundry room, to allow the kitchen, dining and living rooms to flow into each other. With this future update, the transformation of the home will be complete!
